28th September 2014

For the past four Sundays, the church has been doing a series dubbed Heroes. We have covered heroes from a very interesting angle having Julie Gichuru as a speaker to one. The heroes we covered were very different and unique. They are people who are less talked about in our Sunday schools and sermons but they are heroes nonetheless.

the words on the projection say it all

the words on the projection say it all

There are people in your life who are heroes. In most cases these people are either taken for granted and not appreciated for who they are. When was the last time you saw your dad as a hero? Think of all the times he did unfathomable things for you. Your mother? That stranger?

This week’s hero was no different and the speaker for the day was, the all funny and downright honest Carol Kiama. She kicked off with a definition of heroes as defined by Wikipedia.

Pastor Carol Kiama

Pastor Carol Kiama

a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

Her story of how her father rescued her from being a snack to an otherwise grizzly beast of a dog, after the taste of her blood, struck a nerve. She had defied rules set out not to go near the dogs but she choose to jumped over into the dogs kennel. Just like most of us, when we did not deserve the ‘saving’ the hero came through and made sure that you realized how near disaster you were.

The scripture reading came from 2 Kings 5:1-15

Naaman’s Leprosy Healed

Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and honorable man in the eyes of his master, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was also a mighty man of valor, but a leper. And the Syrians had gone out on raids, and had brought back captive a young girl from the land of Israel. She waited on Naaman’s wife. Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.” And Naaman went in and told his master, saying, “Thus and thus said the girl who is from the land of Israel.”

Then the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”

So he departed and took with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing. Then he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which said,

Now be advised, when this letter comes to you, that I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.

And it happened, when the king of Israel read the letter, that he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and make alive, that this man sends a man to me to heal him of his leprosy? Therefore please consider, and see how he seeks a quarrel with me.”

So it was, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Please let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

Then Naaman went with his horses and chariot, and he stood at the door of Elisha’s house. 10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean.” 11 But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, “Indeed, I said to myself, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.’ 12 Are not the Abanah[a] and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. 13 And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” 14 So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his aides, and came and stood before him; and he said, “Indeed, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel; now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.

The hero in this case was the slave girl. She was definitely in a place of honor and power as she was allowed to talk to her ‘owner’. She had served faithfully though it was not in her place to serve as such. She had been captured and her life destroyed by those that she was serving. And the commander of the army at that point was the Man in whose house she served. We therefore expect resentment and anger but it does not look like this was the case.

From her we learn that to be used of the Lord, we need to:

Change our attitude.

We need to change our attitude about where we are at and what we are doing there. We have been placed there for the purpose that we are to fulfill. The moment you look at things from a positive angle, you become confident in what you are doing.

Be faithful where you are

In whatever you are doing and wherever you are placed. You are asked to be faithful with the little. Do beyond what is expected of you. Go the extra mile and show the value in whatever you are doing. It is not for your glory but for the glory of the one who lives in you.

Speak out

We all have great talents within which should be used. Whenever we shy away from saying what we think and what we believe is right, we will end up not believing in ourselves. The biggest problem with this is, the solution that you were to offer that might have changed lives will never be realized.

There is no Gain without pain

Whenever you feel as though Christ has departed from you and has left you to your own devices, whenever you think that is the worst pain you will ever go through, remember that God is instilling in you powers that will take you to greater heights. He is fixing you with wings that will allow you to fly above eagles.

Change focus and look at the Lord.

The Lord knows the bigger picture. You might be focusing on the now, but God sees the bigger frame, the light that’s invisibly to you. Focus on him and you will be sure not to get side tracked by sideshows.

In addition, just as the slave girl, whose name we don’t know, gave Naaman a new lease of life, she brought more people to the realization of the God of Israel. She influenced nations and kings through speaking out.

Whenever two people look at the same thing, they see different results. Be the one who sees through God’s eyes. Step into your destiny and arise!

Stomperz Sunday: “The Casual Christian”

Dear Friends,

Stomperz Sunday was fantastic. Dance as an expression of praise and worship is just too good.

read more on Stompers “@

Anyway to Cut to the chase, Our Preacher was Ms. Selina Yolanda Waliaula, and oh my this dancer has multi talent.

The topic was The Casual Christian:

  1. The Definition
  • Someone who believes in God and who thinks that this is enough to be saved
  • Someone who misquotes the Bible to justify their own actions or beliefs
  • Someone who claims that ‘God didn’t really mean it when He said don’t lie / don’t steal / don’t look with lust, etc.’
  • The luke warm believer who Christian who is headed to the Heavens ICU
  • Someone who when out there in the world hangs out with non-saved Christians and instead of giving courage and being the true example, lives the worldly life… But on Sunday is an usher in church and wears a mink jacket… (Pretends to be the best of the best). Ooh! this reminds me of a colleague of mine who does not work nor perform but when the boss calls he runs to kiss his boots.
  • Chicks… Gold digging on Monday to Saturday then using the same for tithe and offering on Sunday… Get a life… earn an honest living.
  • Someone who probably drinks one or too boozes justifying them as a little wine and then goes ahead and curses the regular drunkard… Yea… trying to classify sin right?
  • All in all the casual Christian is one who compromises their Christian ways and tries to justify it
  • Longing to live the way of this world like telling a friend who introduces them self a gay that It’s all right to be gay since people are born different!!! Duh!!!

2. The Why

  • Unfortunately there are people who attend church every week but who have never actually been saved. They attend church out of a sense of obligation or for socialization, while lacking a saving relationship with Christ
  • Once a person has been genuinely saved, he or she will desire to spend time worshipping God and fellowshipping with other believers at church
  • Attending the Concert for the fun parts, the crowd, the social and finding it boring when its time to worship.
  • The grey areas in life, living together (co-habiting) before marriage because in modern society is cool to experiment and get to test the waters before making final decisions.
  • We all know Jesus is coming soon but the casual Christian will keep saying that there is still time to repent, going the disco and having a great time at the party booze and all having in mind that on Sunday you will repent and all will be good for the fresh week.
  • You imagine Jesus is a disappointment because things did not work out as you had planned or you had intended, you go to church on Sunday and pray for a Job then on Tuesday you fail the interview and blame God!!! Duh!!! again… God just aint gonna attend interviews for you. Put in your own effort and don’t lay the blame on God.
  • Selina Yolanda went through one of these “Disappointments…” She had an opportunity to leave the country on an exchange plan but did not manage to get her passport in the stipulated 2 weeks… actually it took three months as the officers at immigration thought she was a OGA… lol. Anyway she missed the trip and even lol she even anticipated burning Nyayo house… Thanks to the non-casual Christian attitude she has now she is all over that, and is fully content.
  • God can disappoint you if you tend to live a life that is more about serving you than Him, if your Christian standards go down trust me “Your Blogger” you will be disappointed… that is why I am sharing this with you all. Selina Preached directly to me. Yes I have been a casual Christian.

3. How do you know your Casual?

How do you know you are a casual Christian or backsliding? Have you ever checked out the steps that lead to it?

Selina pointed then out as below

a)    Prayer life goes down. We no longer give time to prayer and purpose. Most of us pray on demand.. God hook me up with these shoes pleaseeeee Amen. Like it’s a condition being given. A young dancer by the name of Ger reminded us that we must pray continuously n always.

b)    Ministry life goes down. People who were deep in ministry begin skiving the responsibilities they had offered. By the way cleaning the chairs in Church is ministry so if you skive it you are as ‘good’ as a Pastor skiving preaching.

c)    Reading the Bible. Reading the bible in a diminishing way…

  • You the strong and committed Christian used to read the bible daily, Committed to at least a Chapter a day.
  • You the falling Christian reads the bible a few verses a day
  • You the Casual Christian reads the bible when in church on Sunday and only remember Jn 11:35 Jesus wept and maybe… Just maybe Jn 3:16. Oh just a reminder… “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.” The Message.
  • When you read the bible you are directly speaking to God so when you put Facebook Before your bible you are putting your personal interests before God.

d)    Meeting with Brethren to share Gods word together is vital. The casual Christian will instead put meeting with homies to catch up and share the latest Gossip.

Join a Care Group (CG) and you will feel the difference. Hey… Being in a CG is actually fun, Its more fun that getting stoned and regretting then pretending to repent on Sunday.

Be Bold Tell your homies on the other side that you will NOT heng and will not get stoned. Ask them out… out to visit with a CG or to church on Sunday. Walk the Talk!!!

e)    When you hang around the aspect of sin and feel nothing, you are being casual. If you are in a situation where you can or will fall, flea. Putting yourself in a position where sexual temptation is at your doorstep will create the perfect atmosphere for you to have it and do it and what does the bible say about sexual immorality?

1 Corinthians 6:18 (The Message)

16-20There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never “become one.” There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.

Let’s take a look at the bible story of Shadrack, Meshak and Abednego…

Daniel 3 (The Message)

19-23 Nebuchadnezzar, his face purple with anger, cut off Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace fired up seven times hotter than usual. He ordered some strong men from the army to tie them up, hands and feet, and throw them into the roaring furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, bound hand and foot, fully dressed from head to toe, were pitched into the roaring fire. Because the king was in such a hurry and the furnace was so hot, flames from the furnace killed the men who carried Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to it, while the fire raged around Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

The soldiers burnt from the heat, relate this with being the casual Christian and hanging around evil, you don’t need to be in fire to burn, you just need to be around it.

4. What Does God think of the casual Christian?

The Book of Amos is set in a time when the people of Israel have reached a low point in their devotion to YHWH (the God of Israel) – the people have become greedy and have stopped following and adhering to their values. The wealthy elite are becoming rich at the expense of others. Peasant farmers who once practiced subsistence farming are being forced to farm what is best for foreign trade, mostly wine and oil.

YHWH speaks to Amos, a farmer and herder, and tells him to go to Samaria, the capital of the Northern kingdom. Through Amos, God tells the people that he is going to judge Israel for its sins, and it will be a foreign nation that will enact his judgment.

The people understand judgment as the coming of “the Day of the Lord.” “The Day of the Lord” was widely celebrated and highly anticipated by the followers of God. However, Amos came to tell the people that “the Day of the Lord” was coming soon and that it meant divine judgment and justice for their own iniquity.

Read Amos Chapter 2-6.

We should think of ourselves the way Christ thinks of us we should change our ways and believe as is quoted in

Philippians 2:8-11 (The Message)

5-8Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.

9-11Because of that obedience, God lifted him high and honored him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father.

If you know your spiritual health is lacking… Like Mine… and you are allowing weakness to take over, to think you have arrived and you know Jesus more than anyone else, Consider yourself wanting and require urgent medical attention, there is Dr. Jesus who shall you admit you in heavens ICU. He shed his blood that all may be cleansed as white as snow

John 1:29-31 (The Message)

29-31The very next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, “Here he is, God’s Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I’ve been talking about, ‘the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.’ I knew nothing about who he was—only this: that my task has been to get Israel ready to recognize him as the God-Revealer. That is why I came here baptizing with water, giving you a good bath and scrubbing sins from your life so you can get a fresh start with God.”

Isaiah 1:18-20 (The Message)

18-20“Come. Sit down. Let’s argue this out.”
This is God’s Message:
“If your sins are blood-red,
they’ll be snow-white.
If they’re red like crimson,
they’ll be like wool.
If you’ll willingly obey,
you’ll feast like kings.
But if you’re willful and stubborn,
you’ll die like dogs.”
That’s right. God says so.

Why are you taking your Christianity Casually?

You are either for the Lord or Not for Him.

Don’t Mock Him!!!

Chooze who you are living for.

Hebrew 10:26-31 (The Message)

26-31If we give up and turn our backs on all we’ve learned, all we’ve been given, all the truth we now know, we repudiate Christ’s sacrifice and are left on our own to face the Judgment—and a mighty fierce judgment it will be! If the penalty for breaking the law of Moses is physical death, what do you think will happen if you turn on God’s Son, spit on the sacrifice that made you whole, and insult this most gracious Spirit? This is no light matter. God has warned us that he’ll hold us to account and make us pay. He was quite explicit: “Vengeance is mine, and I won’t overlook a thing” and “God will judge his people.” Nobody’s getting by with anything, believe me.

When you are giving give with your heart not just because other people are giving.

Let your tithes and offerings be from a cheerful heart. giving shingo upande is the same as just not giving at all. It’s not a debt, it’s a promise.

Learn to be more Christ like and remember what Jesus asked you to simply live like…

Matthew 22:36-40 (The Message (MSG))

The Most Important Command

34-36When the Pharisees heard how he had bested the Sadducees, they gathered their forces for an assault. One of their religion scholars spoke for them, posing a question they hoped would show him up: “Teacher, which command in God’s Law is the most important?” 37-40Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”

Memorable New Beginning (Pics-Speak)

The front

Listen to the images, This is what The lord had for us on the 4th of September 2011.

First day in the new Sanctuary.

A Call from Heaven!

Imagine you get a phone call from a number you have never seen before, you say:

on the other end you hear:

hello how are you?

You say:

Fine thank you… Who’s speaking please?

on the other end again you hear:

Aah its God, I’m calling from heaven…

I’m a bit busy at the moment, was just calling you to inform you that you have one year left to live.

God hangs up.

1. What will run through your mind?

2. What will you immediately start doing?

3. What will you stop doing?

4. What are you doing at the moment that is going to give you a panic attack?

5. What are you NOT doing at the moment that is going to give you a panick attack?

While your pondering over that, lets go off topic for a moment… Say God had asked you to choose 3 people to take to heaven with you who would you choose? What criteria would you use?

Do you read books? if yes, how many books have you read, how many books do you have in your collection? Is the bible one of them? Do you read it often or is it the one book that has gathered the most dust on the shelf?

Pick your bible off the shelf, put it on the ground and STAND on it LITERALLY, STAND on it…

As the Body of Christ comes together, we must stand on the Word of God to endure until the end.  When we stand on the Word of God, nothing can prevail against us.  God is calling us to Unite.  The Fruit of His Spirit connects us as we continually meditate on these Words inspired and breathed upon by Him.

Will we stand on God’s Word and see God’s work, or will we stand on our own strength and fall?

Say the words… “On your word I will stand”

This is all because one day that call will come… and neither you nor I nor any mortal being knows the day, date nor time. So stop waiting for the call… act now correct your ways, don’t let yourself speak negative things about yourself…

Prov 23:7 (KJV)

7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
“ Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.

Always speak good things about yourself… Yes, definitely this will border between bragging and pride and could be dangerous, think about the line between faith and foolishness and make your choices with due consideration.

Never compare yourself with other people, remember that you are your own self…

Psalms 139:13-18

13 For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place.

When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me

were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to [a] me are your thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand.

When I awake,

I am still with you.

Live what God wants you to be and remember that we are all winners in the eyes of God from conception all the way through. Focus on your potentials and NOT your limitations. Be yourself and you will succeed, focus on the potential within you and on what you can do.

When you know how  to walk your potentials, you will do well. You are not just tomorrows leaders, you are a leader today, what are you waiting for tomorrow for?

Have courage to be different and love the dream that God has called to. This dream comes from no other book but the BIBLE, flea from sin, look at Gideon, Joseph, Daniel. Read about them and how they resisted sin and made it to the top.

Evaluate your weaknesses and from your perspective and that of others and and learn how to face unpleasant truths with calm and composition.

Read your bible to help you get to the next level that God is calling you. A time is coming when every tongue will confess and nothing else matters. So whatever you do DO IT WELL.

When you marry and have a family let your children emulate your good example. Remember that when the time comes to face the Lord it will be You, Yourself and You.

That day is coming. It might be today.

This is from Justin Birichi’s (CEO AIS, Nairobi City Stars, Etc.) Sermon given on Sunday 27th September 2009 at the Frontrunnerz tent.

The Big Catch

In your life there is what your live for… success, money, great wife (4 the guys) and great husband (For the gals), an extremely well paying job, to climb the financial and corporate ladder really fast and all the good things in life.

But here comes the big question!!! What would give you the greatest disappointment in life? What is your big score you just havent managed to attain? What is your big catch that is skipping the net?

Is it that house you never built? Is it that self image you just dont seem to be able to attain?

 Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created man in his own image,
       in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

We are basically just people, not born rich not born with 1000 achievements but made in the image and likeness of God. We were created to have continued fellowship with God but we fell or to sound more biblical, man fell and failed to receive all of Gods glory and He had intended.

Man’s fell from grace and began to build his own kingdom in the name of worldly acheivments, money and power being the ultimate goal. Jesus came to help restore man from this pith His will and purpose being:

John 4:34 (NIV)

34“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.

to help bringing man back to God.Jesus will is to be the bridge that connects God and man. Jesus came in as the ultimate mediator.

Sometimes you may ask yourself if God really has interest in you because of all hte hard stuff you see or probably go through, say for example the post election violence in 2007/2008 and the current drought that is ravaging the nation as politicians fatten themselves with meat and fine wine. Well let me make it known to you… Jesus gives priority to you because…

1 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

20We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

We are employed by God to be His ambassadors, each one of us has been created for eternity. God has created us for an assignment. He has nor forgotten us.

Preach this to your best pal, to your neighbour, to your mama/jamaa.

here again is  the starting arguement…What is your score? What is your big catch? The motto at ICC is Connecting People to God and to each other. Challlenging people to Christlikeness,  that is the Catch ICC has intended to make.

When I see the way most Christians live, I am totally convinced that what they say and what they beleve is not true.

Practicing Athiest

Talk of a Big God and we dont turst Him.

A God there for the people and we are not there for Him.

What kind of society are we living in? What are we turning our society into? How are we treating our children? How are we treating our neighbors children? And I quote  Rick Warren “What On Earth Are We Here For?”

Friends we need to get our act in order, we need to quit living double lives and put our faith in the Lord.

We need to…

Mathew 6:33  (NIV)

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Just like Jesus Called (Simon called Peter) and Andrew…

19“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

He is calling you and “THAT WILL BE YOUR BIG CATCH”

Take care n God bless.

Thee Ten Commandments

There are questions we ask and others we keep to ourselves, and some of these which we keep to ourselves are core in our lives.

Friends, take these issues to God in prayer. We all have private needs, family needs which we are not willing to discuss with our friends, but remember, there is always someone who will listening to your private needs and will keep them private. The Lord God Jehovah!

If you died today, where would you go? what legacy would you have left on earth? What would you give as your defense to God on Judgment day to determine your entry into heaven? Where you a good Christian who fed the widows and orphans or where you a pervert in Christian skin? Don’t you God can see right through what you think is secret to your fellow Christians?

Mathew 7:21(NIV)

21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

There are many struggles, bitterness, hate, and the negative perception of you. Just ask God how you can tell that He is listening to you. Ask Him how He can help you overcome your weaknesses, your sin and understand that you are with Him.

Whatever good you do, will you make it to heaven? Refer to the verse above Mat 7:21.

Let’s take a look at Joshua; he had a mandate to take the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land. He had to have courage, the people where complaining and hating all over the place. The big question here is… Faced with a task as that given to Joshua, would you have given up?

Yes!!! We all have this question somewhere in the back of our minds… How long do we have to hold on to trials that we are put thru?

The book of Deuteronomy leads us to want to know what God is saying to us. Do you what to be the best in what you do? In your field of work? In your sphere of influence? Could your country depend on you for reliable leadership? In other words Could you do what Moses and Joshua did for the Israelites.

We will take a look at Deuteronomy chapter 5, Moses engaged the Israelites at the Red Sea and they Saw him with the Power of God part the sea, they crossed and they forgot that the Lord had ever done such a thing for them. They were fed with manna from heaven, even on the day they received the 10 commandments, they still did not appreciate.

1.       6 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

7 “You shall have no other gods before [a] me.

Jesus strengthens this commandment…

Mat 22:37-38(NIV)

37Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38This is the first and greatest commandment.

2.       8 “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 10 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Now is that not self explanatory?

3.        11 “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

How often do we hear people swearing and using the Lords Name in Vain, never really thinking too much about it?

It’s nearly every day, in schools, colleges, the work place, and your neighbors, why the list is really endless as to where we hear people using the Name of the Lord in Vain.

We have even heard those in the ministry using the name of the Lord in Vain.

So what does it really mean, the Lords Name is Holy, to use it in a way that would Not bring it Glory would indeed be a Sin.

We need to kindly correct those who are using the Lords Name in Vain, and if they object then turn away from them. The same can be said if someone causes us to Sin to Stay Away from them.

4.        12 “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do.

This does not mean you idle about on Sunday and refuse to work… God is greater than a mere day… Remember he created the days. Here are some verses that Jesus gave that strengthen this…

Matthew 12

Lord of the Sabbath

1At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”

3He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5Or haven’t you read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple desecrate the day and yet are innocent? 6I tell you that one[a] greater than the temple is here. 7If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[b] you would not have condemned the innocent. 8For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

9Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

11He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

13Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.

Mark 3:2-5

2Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”

4Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

5He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.

John 9:14-20

14Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. 15Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”

16Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.”
But others asked, “How can a sinner do such miraculous signs?” So they were divided.

5.       16 “Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

Whether your folks hate you, kick you, beat you, and all those other things that folks do to us that we don’t like… The bible is clear… There is no comprmise whatever the case there is absolutely no alternative, Honour your Father and Mother.

Deut. 7:16(NIV)

“’Cursed is the man who dishonors his father or his mother.’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’”

Rom. 1:30(NIV)

30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;

Here are different aspects of the lifestyle of the Gentiles who live apart from God, and one of them is disobedience to parents. The Bible tells us how important it is to honor your parents.

The Hebrew word actually used for the word honor or obedience is the word that means “to carry weight” or “to be heavy.” It implies the value we must put into honoring our parents. But this expression is not simply to explain honor and obedience at the level of human ethics. The same word is used when the Bible talks about honoring God. So when the Bible tells you to honor your parents, it is not simply to respect them, but it is to serve them as you would serve God.

6.        17 “You shall not murder.

7.        18 “You shall not commit adultery.

Yea… Till you married, keep your zipper UP!!!

8.        19 “You shall not steal.

Tyhth faith fully… here is a perfect example of sealing… Its fresh from the bible

Mal 3:6-12(NIV)

Robbing God

6 “I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD Almighty.
“But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’

8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,” says the LORD Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the LORD Almighty.

If you rob God look into yourself and see who else your rob.

9.       “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

10.   21 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor’s house or land, his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

22 These are the commandments the LORD proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

Who are you listening to?

Because you will become a product of whom you listen to…

That was Pasi Tony’s message On Sunday 14th September 2008.

52 weeks in a year we listen to preachers (Or all the Sundays we attend church and have our minds on the message)

Please read Ecclesiastes 7 (the whole Chapter)

What is he who you’re listening to saying to you?

The Sprite add told many of this generation that the way to look cool is to wear sagging oversized jeans, sticking out underwear and oversized shoes…

So clearly you can tell who this generation is listening to just from the dress code.

Back in the day there was a trend of Lingala, there were groups such as Mangelepa, Franco, Les Wanyika, Samba Mapangala etc… Oh I know and can name quite a number of them, I am from that generation.

If you did not know want these (mentioned above) were… You were definitely not in the picture those days; you were a nobody and needed style up training.

Moving on… who decides what is beautiful? Chicks… Who told you that being a size 10 is the in thing…  West Africa… has giant mamas and wacha going far… Western Kenya here in our own backyard has big mama’s… Now imagine changing one of those mama’s into a size 10? Her body alone bila the fat is already a size 14… do you mean that those mamas aren’t fly because they can’t make size 10? GEEEZE!!!

Again these movies we watch are another tool we tend to listen to and thing that life is a bed of roses. A guy is in high school, goes off to college, gets his degree, immediately gets a job, buys a great car, buys a “To die for” condo on Beverly hills’ and gets the best woman in the lot. Geeze we all know the reality, friends we tarmac, we suffer to tafuta fees, and we live in low end bed sitters and move up slowly but what message do the movies give us?

The education system in Kenya has also failed in its own way; it emphasizes on the end product and not the process thus the half baked products in the job market. Good papers but not aligned.

Friends the books we read, the magazines akina Truelove Drum Adam etc. leave us worse off than where we were.

Take up the example of Timothy and Paul, Look at what Paul Told timothy in the bible

2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV)

2And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

Elisha looks up to Elisha because of Elijah’s good ways, the Lord had spoken to Elijah and given him a role, Elisha listened to the right man… “Who are you listening to”?

1 Kings 19-21 (NIV)

The Call of Elisha

19 So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. 20 Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. “Let me kiss my father and mother good-by,” he said, “and then I will come with you.”
“Go back,” Elijah replied. “What have I done to you?”

21 So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant.

You have to be strong and courageous even when you are feeling low. Switch off the noise around you and Listen on to the Lord.

Moses Listened to the Lord, Joshua listened to Moses.

Jesus was God, the disciples listened to Jesus. They even died for Him they were murdered for Him.

Thus once again… “WHO ARE YOU LISTENING TO?”

Friends make your life count for something, do a course in the side that could one day come in handy, do first aid or something that you can know you are an asset to society.

Who is your Moses?

Who is your Elijah?

Who is your Paul?

Who do you talk to when you feel discouraged?

Some of the music we are listening to is pure trash and we listen to it religiously, shockingly some of the ‘contemporary Christian music’ is also wired these days… and I will not give examples coz you know them.

In this generation laziness is glorified, guyz want to marry a wife who can cook and the girls want a man with a vision and cash, why can’t we make good the people around us? Make good heroes of those people we deem worthless. Many people are bila cash and this does not mean they are write offs in society, women, you don’t need a man’s money to make it in life, you don’t need a man’s vision to succeed. Men you don’t need a woman so that you can eat!!! Buy a pan, cook…

What we all really need to do is pray to God to give us our Moses, our Paul, our Elijah and not some wonna be on telly.

Switch off the noise and begin listening to what the Lord is saying to you. Take matters into your hands and take control. Pray to God for blessings.
