JUST AS YOU ARE- DISCIPLINE

I played rugby during my high school years though not so many people believe it when I tell them this. I used to be a second center and I believed I was one of the best players there were. Every time I tell my girlfriend this story, wife to be, she laughs and goes like. ‘I also used to be the tallest girl in high school’. If you see me you will definitely understand what she means. She is slightly shorter than me and I hardly see Pasi Gibo’s shirt from where I sit during the service.

Back to rugby or let’s think of any activity in general. Have you ever looked at another person doing something and you wish you were the one doing it as you fell that you will definitely do it so much better than them even though you are not trained in that field?

When you look at other people doing something it looks so simple and easy up until when you decide to do it yourself. What we fail to remember is that those people doing this usually put in a lot of effort and time into these fields. They train, practice, appoint coaches, pay for training grounds, etc. you get it.

To be a professional in any field you have to sacrifice a lot and most of all endure tremendous amounts of painful moments as you learn. Most of us are last minute persons who just look at the project at the last moment and hope that it will work out.

Discipline is something that most athletes have learnt to posses. They have to discipline their thoughts, their diets, and their bodies just to mention but a few. And another thing that they have to accept in their lives is a person or a group of people who will be honest and straight with them. People who will be telling them how they are performing without biasness. People who will be straight and open with them.

1st Corinthians 9:24-27(KJV)

1co 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
1co 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
1co 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
1co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

This form of discipline in a Christian context will be instilled in us through/ by other believers. But in the case of you and me in Frontrunners our pals and members of a care group will be an advantage. They will tell you how to handle some issues as they are going through the same situations in their lives. You will not have to make some of the mistakes that they have made as they will inform you on how to handle some of these issues.

This was illustrated by Omosh and Kevo in the service.

These two individuals are going / have gone through a number of issues that is representative of all of us.

Omosh had a rough past before he decided to come to church. He was struggling with some sexual issues and mainly Marijuana. When he was introduced to the sound team he made a transformation as he got into friendship with members of the team and as the team meet after the service to pray he was prayed for. This did not just happen once but more often. He grew in knowledge and confidence. He has gone for Masters Commission and numerous other missions. Every time he stands up there to MC you can definitely see the joy in his life. It is the people he is around that have shaped him up to this point. People in his CG, Sound Team, Masters Commission and others.

Kevo is another case. How many of us have girlfriends/ dates? All those who have can definitely admit that keeping thy hands to thy self is a hard task that borders torture. We all want to hold each other, talk sweet nothings , kiss here and there. How many have the guts to stop before you start the flame? Where is this point of no return? Kevo has a chick and there are many temptations that they have gone through but there is a group by the name, REGs (Relationship Enrichment Groups). This is where couples talk of their issues and try sort and help each other giving each other remedies to the ‘hard’ staff of relationships as they become friends.

A small group is an essential part of one’s growing as a person in the society or as an individual. You will get a lot from a group of friends than from a movie named ‘how to say I love you’.

Join a small group or form one.

God bless you.

THE RACE

By Eric Munyoki

“Oh my God it’s a Kenya 1, 2, 3. This is totally awesome. Yet again the Kenyans scoop the gold, silver and bronze in one race, the 3000 meters steeplechase. How awesome it is to be Kenyan at this moment.”

We might have heard of such commentary or something much better, (wasn’t borne a commentator), over the numerous Olympics championships and the common wealth games. We have always celebrated the win of any Kenyan in these tournaments.

Most of us who have been out of the country have been asked this question.

“are you a runner?” or for others “teach me how to run”

Paul was a person who had gone through numerous events in his life. He had been trained by a very great man, Gamaliel (Acts 5:34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people……), and had grown to be a high ranking official in the government at that time. He was very senior and his duty included going after Christians and persecuting them.

If he was to die at that time, he would so have been given a heroes burial. Things changed drastically when he happened to have met Jesus Christ while he was on his way to persecute Christians. The encounter was so power filled that he lost his sight. One thing very good came out of his blindness, a spirit of change.

He changed his ways. He moved from being a persecutor of Christians to being the persecuted for Christ. As he was in prison he wrote letters to his followers and followers of Christ in the regions that he had preached the word. He knew his purpose of living and as he wrote 2nd Timothy during his last days in prison before his execution, he says,

2 Timothy 4:6-8

2ti 4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

This is a man who persecuted Christians saying that he is going to be given a crown of righteousness. In other versions of the bible they call the course a race.

There is one thing that is notable from this presage. There is no mention of the position that he is in the race but there is a mention of the fact that he completed the race. Are going to be crowned at the end of race? We all want to be.

But a crucial question to ask yourself is, are you in the race?

THINGS WE VALUE

Imagine you are a dude and one of your dude pals decides to call you and you have a conversation that goes like this:

“Hey dude? How are you?” he says

“I’m kul brother, what’s up?” you say

“Just wanted to tell you that I’m feeling you man. Mind if we got hooked up?” He says

“(What do you say?)”

This is a reality in the society at the moment. We as Christians may try to block our brains to the existence of the vices in our society but that does not extinguish them in reality. Are we the ones to blame for the collapse in the morality of the society? Are we doing enough to bring back sanity to the society?

We are to be the salt and light of the world. We are to guide the rest in the walk of faith but how can we achieve this if what we do is cling to our old ways? We have failed in where we put our emphasis to life, our values. We value big houses, a luxurious car and all those materialistic things that are of the world. These things tie us to the places that we are at.

Mathew 4:18- 20 (KJV)

Mt 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Mt 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Mt 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

Can any of us as Christians attest to doing anything as such in our lives ( leaving all our priced possessions and taking to the road) most will use the excuse that they are waiting to hear more from the Lord before they actually leave what is holding them back from the service of Christ.

Mathew 9:9 (KJV)

Mt 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
Mt 9:10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
Mt 9:11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
Mt 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
Mt 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Have we ever sacrificed our pride in the society for the sake of a fallen brother or sister or friend? We all have the opportunity to impact someone’s life positively but how often do we take up that opportunity?

We concentrate on the thought of what will they think of me afterwards, how will they relate to me after they know I am a ‘savedi’. We have to put this miniature prides to rest and focus entirely on spreading the word of God. We should focus on being the people who drive others toward Christ.

Let not the fear of losing your friend keep you from telling them that you are saved and sharing with them the good news. But most of all let your actions speak louder than your words.

January 3rd 2010

After a long and wonderful session of praise and worship, we sat down to a crispy attention catchy voice of a well known radio presenter, or so I though before I threw a glance at the podium and to my honest surprise, the person on stage was Mofat, a combination of Morrise, fatuma and Robert to form a name. his ice brakers ,as he said out the announcements, were awesome but the thing that is still tickling me is the UG masters commission story where saved brethrens were running  all over a resort in there boxers and soapy faces ( I will tell him to write it out for you very soon).

Our very own  Pasi Gibbo, took to  the steps and noticeably the Hands free Microphone wasn’t there. Watu wa Sound is this how the year will be???

“Have you made this Year’s resolutions?” he asked and took to the aisles to receive input from individuals in the congregation. Tension spilled over as most people would not imagine holding the same microphone as the Pasi.   “What were your plans for last year and what did you achieve?” Answers wee varied as one had just proposed to His girlfriend now a fiancée, another had wanted to get home from school and she got that. (Don’t ask)

He called to stage a lady by the name of Carole Rene to share a few things with us. Her beautiful face and lovely smile knew how to hide what she has been through in life. She barely looks 26 but her life sounds like a 30 year olds. (Hope hatasoma this article). She has gone through a lot in her hay days. Born of a rich family but unfortunately when she was 7 her dad chased the mum and her from their able lifestyle to a lifestyle of straggles and hard times. Though she took it very hard at that time but from the way she’s turned out she is stronger and an inspiration to any one who thinks they are going through hell. That was just a token of her struggles and there was still more hurt. She has always been a God fearing lady and God never lets her people down. He fought through with her and through a rough time at work where people wanted to throw her out. God gave her victory and she is now a permanent employee at the firm and those who had masterminded the evil resigned. She always wanted a man who will sweep her off her feet and god at his rightful timing blessed her with a God fearing , supportive man who is more than she had always been praying for. She read from Psalms 15 which from my online KJV reads

Ps 15:1 A Psalm of David. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
Ps 15:2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
Ps 15:3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
Ps 15:4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.
Ps 15:5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

Pasi  Gibbo’s sermon today was an encouragement as we move into the new year. We all want resolutions that work but there is something we should try and do different this year. We should try and make COMMITMENTS and not resolutions.

This is very possible as is shown by Abraham in the Old Testament who trusted God and leant on His promises and moved from an area of familiarity to an unknown.

The bible verse that he read came from Genesis 12 from the KJV which reads

Genesis 12

Ge 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee:
Ge 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
Ge 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Ge 12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

If god is for you who can be against you??

Have a blessed Week

A Call from Heaven!

Imagine you get a phone call from a number you have never seen before, you say:

Hello

on the other end you hear:

hello how are you?

You say:

Fine thank you… Who’s speaking please?

on the other end again you hear:

Aah its God, I’m calling from heaven…

I’m a bit busy at the moment, was just calling you to inform you that you have one year left to live.

God hangs up.

1. What will run through your mind?

2. What will you immediately start doing?

3. What will you stop doing?

4. What are you doing at the moment that is going to give you a panic attack?

5. What are you NOT doing at the moment that is going to give you a panick attack?

While your pondering over that, lets go off topic for a moment… Say God had asked you to choose 3 people to take to heaven with you who would you choose? What criteria would you use?

Do you read books? if yes, how many books have you read, how many books do you have in your collection? Is the bible one of them? Do you read it often or is it the one book that has gathered the most dust on the shelf?

Pick your bible off the shelf, put it on the ground and STAND on it LITERALLY, STAND on it…

As the Body of Christ comes together, we must stand on the Word of God to endure until the end.  When we stand on the Word of God, nothing can prevail against us.  God is calling us to Unite.  The Fruit of His Spirit connects us as we continually meditate on these Words inspired and breathed upon by Him.

Will we stand on God’s Word and see God’s work, or will we stand on our own strength and fall?

Say the words… “On your word I will stand”

This is all because one day that call will come… and neither you nor I nor any mortal being knows the day, date nor time. So stop waiting for the call… act now correct your ways, don’t let yourself speak negative things about yourself…

Prov 23:7 (KJV)

7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
“ Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.

Always speak good things about yourself… Yes, definitely this will border between bragging and pride and could be dangerous, think about the line between faith and foolishness and make your choices with due consideration.

Never compare yourself with other people, remember that you are your own self…

Psalms 139:13-18

13 For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place.

When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me

were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to [a] me are your thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand.

When I awake,

I am still with you.

Live what God wants you to be and remember that we are all winners in the eyes of God from conception all the way through. Focus on your potentials and NOT your limitations. Be yourself and you will succeed, focus on the potential within you and on what you can do.

When you know how  to walk your potentials, you will do well. You are not just tomorrows leaders, you are a leader today, what are you waiting for tomorrow for?

Have courage to be different and love the dream that God has called to. This dream comes from no other book but the BIBLE, flea from sin, look at Gideon, Joseph, Daniel. Read about them and how they resisted sin and made it to the top.

Evaluate your weaknesses and from your perspective and that of others and and learn how to face unpleasant truths with calm and composition.

Read your bible to help you get to the next level that God is calling you. A time is coming when every tongue will confess and nothing else matters. So whatever you do DO IT WELL.

When you marry and have a family let your children emulate your good example. Remember that when the time comes to face the Lord it will be You, Yourself and You.

That day is coming. It might be today.

This is from Justin Birichi’s (CEO AIS, Nairobi City Stars, Etc.) Sermon given on Sunday 27th September 2009 at the Frontrunnerz tent.

The Big Catch

In your life there is what your live for… success, money, great wife (4 the guys) and great husband (For the gals), an extremely well paying job, to climb the financial and corporate ladder really fast and all the good things in life.

But here comes the big question!!! What would give you the greatest disappointment in life? What is your big score you just havent managed to attain? What is your big catch that is skipping the net?

Is it that house you never built? Is it that self image you just dont seem to be able to attain?

 Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created man in his own image,
       in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

We are basically just people, not born rich not born with 1000 achievements but made in the image and likeness of God. We were created to have continued fellowship with God but we fell or to sound more biblical, man fell and failed to receive all of Gods glory and He had intended.

Man’s fell from grace and began to build his own kingdom in the name of worldly acheivments, money and power being the ultimate goal. Jesus came to help restore man from this pith His will and purpose being:

John 4:34 (NIV)

34“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.

to help bringing man back to God.Jesus will is to be the bridge that connects God and man. Jesus came in as the ultimate mediator.

Sometimes you may ask yourself if God really has interest in you because of all hte hard stuff you see or probably go through, say for example the post election violence in 2007/2008 and the current drought that is ravaging the nation as politicians fatten themselves with meat and fine wine. Well let me make it known to you… Jesus gives priority to you because…

1 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

20We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

We are employed by God to be His ambassadors, each one of us has been created for eternity. God has created us for an assignment. He has nor forgotten us.

Preach this to your best pal, to your neighbour, to your mama/jamaa.

here again is  the starting arguement…What is your score? What is your big catch? The motto at ICC is Connecting People to God and to each other. Challlenging people to Christlikeness,  that is the Catch ICC has intended to make.

When I see the way most Christians live, I am totally convinced that what they say and what they beleve is not true.

Practicing Athiest

Talk of a Big God and we dont turst Him.

A God there for the people and we are not there for Him.

What kind of society are we living in? What are we turning our society into? How are we treating our children? How are we treating our neighbors children? And I quote  Rick Warren “What On Earth Are We Here For?”

Friends we need to get our act in order, we need to quit living double lives and put our faith in the Lord.

We need to…

Mathew 6:33  (NIV)

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Just like Jesus Called (Simon called Peter) and Andrew…

Mathew4:19

19“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

He is calling you and “THAT WILL BE YOUR BIG CATCH”

Take care n God bless.
